A heavily wooded canyon great for adventuring

Huntington Canyon is a heavily wooded canyon in the Manti-La Sal National Forest.

A pleasant 30-mile drive up the canyon via Utah State Route 31 is part of the state designated Huntington-Eccles Scenic Byway, also known as the Energy Loop Scenic Byway. Featuring sheer pock-marked canyon walls, the forest offers campgrounds, hiking, biking, horseback riding, cold reservoirs, top-notch fly fishing, and snowmobiling / cross-country skiing in winter.

Along the road (approximately 6 miles into the canyon) you will pass the Crandall Canyon Miners Memorial, dedicated in September, 2008. The memorial is in honor of the miners that were trapped when the mine collapsed in August of 2007.

Roughly 20 miles into the drive you will hit the historic Stuart Guard Station, originally constructed in the early 1930's to house a Forest Ranger and his family, now it is a visitor center and museum. Stop in and step back in time! Just a short distance from the guard station is the trail head for Nuck Woodard Canyon, which has 35 miles of trails and roads - part of the Castle Valley Ridge Trail System.
